| Children's Dental Health
Taking care of children's teeth and gums is vital to their
long-term health. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
-
Baby teeth are important - you should begin brushing
your child's teeth as soon as they erupt. Let children
brush under your supervision and assistance until they
can brush by themselves - usually around age 7.
-
Schedule the first visit to the dentist by age 3, and
return at the intervals the dentist recommends.
-
Talk to your child's dentist about fluoride.
-
When your child's permanent molars come in, the dentist
may want to discuss applying sealants if the pits and
fissures in them are deep.
-
Allow your child to chew only sugarless gum. Have him
or her avoid lollipops and other sticky candy.
-
If your child plays sports, make sure he or she always
wears a mouth guard.
