Library storytimes focus on oral health 2/21/2017

Okemos, Michigan—Oral health will be the theme of storytimes at nine Capital Area District Libraries through late February and March.

In honor of National Reading Month, Delta Dental will provide oral health-related children’s books to be read by dental hygienists from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Children will learn about the importance of keeping their teeth clean while listening to fun stories.

“It’s integral for children to learn good oral health and reading habits at a young age,” said Teri Battaglieri, Director of Communications, Corporate Citizenship, and Philanthropy for Delta Dental of Michigan. “Children who do not brush their teeth regularly are more likely to miss school due to oral health pain. This partnership is a great way to teach children proper oral care.”

Children will go home with an oral health goodie bag, toothbrush, coloring book, and story book.

“Dental disease is a serious problem, but also is usually highly preventable,” said Jolee Hamlin, Associate Director of Public Service, Capital Area District Libraries. “Please join CADL as we partner with Delta Dental for special storytimes focusing on oral health! Children will learn about taking good care of their teeth, while also listening to stories told by a dental hygienist, sharing a craft and receiving a toothbrush.”
