Delta Dental Foundation continues to support Ottawa County

Okemos, Michigan — The Delta Dental Foundation (DDF) recently provided Ottawa County Department of Public Health a $10,000 grant for their Miles of Smiles (MOS) program.

The MOS program provides easy access to comprehensive and preventative dental care for low-income, Medicaid insured and uninsured citizens of Ottawa County.

The program utilizes a 40-foot mobile coach outfitted with two dental chairs, digital X-ray machine, wheelchair lift, laboratory and a waiting area.

Ottawa County has reported a decrease in dental care needs for children due to the Healthy Kids Dental (HKD) program expansion.

HKD provides Medicaid eligible children ages 0-21 access to dental services such as cleanings, X-rays, dentures, root canals and fillings at no cost to their family. Nearly one million children in the state of Michigan are currently enrolled in the program.

Because of this, MOS has the opportunity to expand dental services provided to uninsured adults.

The DDF grant fund dental care for an estimated 30 patients over 42 appointments.

“Ottawa County Department of Public Health’s Miles of Smiles program is very thankful for the continued financial support provided by Delta Dental Foundation,” said Debra Bassett RDH, BHS, Oral Health Team Supervisor. “It has allowed us to provide dental services to the uninsured patients in Ottawa County who would otherwise not receive any dental treatment.”

The DDF has invested a total of $50,000 in Ottawa County’s Miles of Smiles program.
