Okemos, Michigan—The Delta Dental Foundation recently honored Dr. Horacio Falcon of Santa Clara, California with its prestigious Student Leadership Award for $2,500.
Falcon is a 2017 dental school graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy and was selected for the award because of his strong leadership abilities.
Falcon spent his undergraduate years working as a registered dental assistant and attended San Francisco State University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology with a concentration in physiology.
During his time at the University of Detroit Mercy, he was recognized for the contributions he made as a student leader, a mentor to his peers and as class president for two years.
During his freshman year, he helped start the first Hispanic Student Dental Association in hopes to help Spanish speaking communities around Detroit and teach Spanish terminology to dental students so they could communicate with patients more efficiently.
“I have been honored to get to know Horacio over the past few years, and I find myself continually impressed with his level of commitment to his education and the profession of dentistry,” said Juliette Daniels, Assistant Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management. “Horacio is a dedicated, well-rounded professional and I have no doubt that his leadership efforts and professional expertise will be seen throughout the dental profession for years to come.”
Falcon will practice at Woods Dentistry in Harper Woods, Michigan.
Since 2001, the Delta Dental Foundation has granted an annual Student Leadership Award to at least one senior dental student from the University of Detroit Mercy, University of Michigan, the Ohio State University, Indiana University and Case Western Reserve University.
