The Healthy Kids Dental program (HKD) helps Michigan children younger than 21 with Medicaid have healthy, happy smiles—at no cost to you.
With proper oral health care, kids may miss less school, make friends more easily, speak more clearly and learn better in class when they have healthy teeth and mouths.

Dental emergencies
A dental emergency is a service needed to control bleeding, relieve pain, get rid of acute infection, prevent loss of teeth and treat injuries. If a dental emergency happens, call your dental office and ask what you should do. If the emergency is life threatening, call 911.
If you currently do not have a regular dentist, call Delta Dental’s customer service at 866-696-7441 or use our Find a Dentist tool to find a dentist near you. If you are calling after hours, call 866-696-7441 for recorded information and connection to emergency services, if needed.
Virtual Visits delivered by TeleDentistry.com
Healthy Kids Dental members can access TeleDentistry.com*. These virtual visits are a safe and effective way to receive dental care and avoid the emergency room. Consider a virtual visit when you:
- Have a dental emergency and do not have a regular dentist.
- Need access to a dentist after hours if your dentist is not available.
- Need to consult a dentist while traveling and you don’t have a dentist.
Teledentistry is already included in your existing dental coverage.

*TeleDentistry.com services are only available to current Healthy Kids Dental plans administered by Delta Dental of Michigan users. TeleDentistry.com is considered to be a “problem-focused exam” (shown as a D0140 procedure code on your Explanation of Benefits).

Interoperability API
Delta Dental's Interoperability API’s system will provide third-party app developers access to documentation and development systems related to application programming interfaces (“APIs”) provided by Delta Dental pursuant to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (“CMS”) Interoperability and Patient Access Final Rule (CMS-9115-F).
- The Patient Access API will allow developers to retrieve, with the approval and at the direction of an applicable member or the members personal representative, certain data, as applicable, concerning adjudicated claims.
- The Provider Directory API will allow developers to retrieve, as applicable, certain provider and directory information.
